Nice!
Ive been using my iPad to study Chinese for almost a year now and this by far the best app Ive come across for character memorization. The presentation is awesome, and the method is simple. Learning characters is probably the hardest, most tedious part about learning Chinese but this app makes it fun. Great app, great price.
Most immersive flash card system
The design and presentation of this app is what sets it apart. From the opening sequence of the tutorial, which fades in to a close up of the flash card 中国 and pans out to a vast landscape of cards formed into towers. The metaphor is fresh and invokes a feeling of immersion in the history and beauty of the language. Small and subtle choices in the interface make a big impact. Checking the English definition of a word by tapping on its marble slab evokes an animation of the slab sliding up to reveal the information, accompanied by the crisp sound of stone sliding on stone. Rendering the terrain slightly concave instead of flat puts me in the mind of filling a bowl with measurable amounts of progress on a project that, though long, is still completely possible. I love this tool and it is allowing me to study harder and longer, as if I were absorbed in a video game, rather than studying Chinese.
Excellent within its limitations
If these are the characters you want to study (and they are for me) and you are happy enough with the authors SRS algorithm, this is a great little study app. Simple, but elegant design. I use it daily,
Amazing
I really enjoy this app. I truly am very impressed, and I rarely say that about an app. Anyone learning Chinese characters should have this. I just wish there was a way to sync data from my iPad to my iPhone so I wouldnt have to repeat the lessons. Also guys you should really consider a mac app, since it should be almost trivial to port to mac.
